Venice ACTV Vaporetto Public Transportation Official Fares

ACTV stands for Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano. It is the company that operates public transportation in Venice. This primarily includes the Water buses (Vaporetto, plural: vaporetti), Venice's new streetcar on Piazzale Roma and the buses from Venice to the mainland. Pictured here is the Line 1 vaporetto at the Lido.

The following are not part of the ACTV:

The following are not part of the ACTV: private boats that Gondolas, the water taxis, and the airport line Alilaguna.

Ticket counter

Throughout the city and at all entry points into the city, there are numerous ACTV ticket counters, such as here in Punta Sabbioni.

The Important Line 1

The line most frequently used by tourists is the Line 1. It travels the entire length of the Grand Canal. This line is used both for arriving and departing, as well as for sightseeing along the Grand Canal. But there’s a much better way to do that: we recommend the Grand Panorama Tour. This photo of the Grand Canal was taken at dawn in October. You can still see the light fog that rolled in overnight. Venice is especially romantic at this time, and not just for photographers.

The Important Line 2

Anyone driving their car in the Tronchetto Parking Garage or at the parking garages at the Piazzale Roma turns off, the Line 2 through the Grand Canal to get to Venice. It travels at the same speed as Line 1, but does NOT stop at every Grand Canal stop. This means you’ll get to your lodging faster on Line 2. Line 1 also runs through the Grand Canal, but only as far as the Piazzale Roma and not all the way to the parking garage Tronchetto.

The Important Sections 4.1 and 4.2

These black-and-white boats are slightly smaller than the ACTV vaporetti on Lines 1 and 2. They also carry fewer passengers and are used to travel from Venice to the neighboring island Murano to drive back and forth every now and then.

Take Line 14 to Burano and Punta Sabbioni

Day-trippers from the Adriatic coast (Grado, Lignano, Bibione, Caorle, Jesolo) are starting to leave Punta Sabbioni the Line 14 or 15 boat to the St. Mark's Square. Line 14 runs from St. Mark's Square to the Lido, via Punta Sabbioni and Tre Porti to Burano and back again. This type of boat is so large that it can accommodate 1,200 passengers.

The Ferry Car Ferry

The car ferry that runs continuously between the Tronchetto Parking Garage and the Lido goes back and forth is also part of the ACTV. You can also take the ferry with your car without a transfer. It's especially popular among photographers who want to take panoramic pictures of the Venice skyline.

The People Mover

The People Mover constantly shuttles back and forth between the Piazzale Roma and the Tronchetto Parking Garage Back and forth with a stop at the cruise ship terminal. It is also part of the ACTV system. The fare is €1.50 per person per ride and is included in the ACTV ticket. (As of 2026). Pictured: the People Mover with its stop right in the middle of the cruise ship terminal.

The ATVO Express Bus

The buses from ATVO are NOT part of Venice's public transit system. They are used to travel from Venice to the eastern part of the Veneto region (Jesolo, Caorle, Bibione, etc.). Important exception: ATVO buses also run from the Marco Polo Airport all the way to Venice to the Piazzale Roma. There is an additional charge for these. Price: €12.00 for a one-way trip and €22.00 for a round trip.

AliLaguna

The yellow boats of the Alilaguna. These boats shuttle between various locations in Venice and the Marco Polo Airport Back and forth. A ride costs €18 online and must be paid for separately.

Line 5 to Marco Polo Airport

From the Piazzale Roma The No. 5 bus runs every 30 minutes to the Marco Polo Airport and back again. Although the bus is operated by ACTV, you have to pay extra for this trip. Multi-day tickets are NOT valid on this bus line. The price: €10.00 for a one-way trip and €18.00 for a round trip. (As of 2026).

Bus Route 11 on the Lido

Most visitors to Venice use only the water buses (Vaporetti) within the city or for trips to Murano or Burano. The route to Chioggia is an exception: On this route, you first take Line 1 to the Lido and transfer directly to the No. 11 bus at the S.M.E. stop, which continues on to Pellestrina and Chioggia drives.

Current ACTV Fares – 2026

A one-way trip costs €9.50. The trip should take no longer than 75 minutes to reach your destination.

The prices for multi-day tickets are:
24-hour ticket = €25.00.
2-day ticket = €35.00.
3-day ticket = 45.00 €.
7-day ticket = 65.00 €.

The 24-hour ticket is valid on the Italian railway system, Trenitalia (but only within the Venice metropolitan area).

The following applies to all multi-day tickets:
The validity period begins when the first trip is validated.

Ticket counter

Pictured here is one of the ticket counters at the St. Mark's Square. This is a major stop and is therefore staffed by ACTV personnel throughout the day. The numerous smaller stops do NOT have ticket counters. However, wherever you enter Venice as a tourist, there are staffed ticket counters: Airport, parking garages, Train Station, Punta Sabbioni, Lido, Rialto Bridge, St. Mark's Square.

Skip the Line for Your Vaporetto Ticket

I'm sure you've heard it many times before: every year, millions of tourists want to visit Venice. You never know just how hectic things are there until you actually arrive.

How many visitors are in town right now?
How long are the lines?

Fact 1: The peak season runs from March through mid-November.
Fact 2: In the summer, thousands more day-trippers from the Adriatic Sea come to visit.
Fact 3: Not all counters are staffed in the winter, so there may still be wait times even here.
Fact 4: Almost everyone waiting in line wants some helpful advice: What kinds of multi-day Vaporetto tickets are available, and how much do they cost? Where are these tickets valid?

You can avoid all of that by purchasing your tickets in advance and in German.

Get information and make reservations from the comfort of your own home. Take your time to choose what works best for you. Same price as on-site (NO booking fees). Skip the line in Venice and print your ticket right away. You can purchase all ACTV tickets online via this link.
