You’ve probably already read that Venice’s historic center is completely car-free. Only public transportation buses and trains are allowed to go all the way to the outskirts of the city, to the Piazzale Roma or to the train station Santa Lucia, drive.
However, Piazzale Roma does not have enough space for the numerous private tour buses that head to Venice, especially during the peak season. For this reason, tour buses from all over Europe are consistently directed to the end of the bridge—Ponte delle Libertà—and to the parking island. Tronchetto redirected.
Tronchetto Terminal

If you’re traveling by long-distance bus (such as FlixBus) or with a private tour operator, your trip will end on Tronchetto Island. Your return trip will also typically depart from this central bus parking lot. In the photo, you can see a tour bus on the left, the People Mover stop at Tronchetto in the center of the image, and the People Mover just pulling out of the stop.
Access to the city center

Although Tronchetto is an island in its own right, you’re still well connected to the heart of the city:
People Mover: This driverless elevated tram is particularly convenient. It takes only a few minutes to travel the two stops to Piazzale Roma. From there, you can continue on foot or by taking another water bus.
Vaporetto: Line 2 stops right at Tronchetto and takes you deeper into the city via the Grand Canal or the Canale della Giudecca.
