Venice Water Taxi

Unlike public transportation (vaporetti), which only stops at a few locations in Venice, a water taxi will take you right to your hotel. It doesn't get any better than that. Reliable, fast, comfortable, and safe.

Quick Transfer to Your Hotel

High-Speed Water Taxi in Venice

If you make a reservation in advance, a water taxi will be waiting for you at the airport and will take you directly to your hotel in Venice or to any other destination in the city. Without a reservation, it’s purely a matter of luck whether you’ll be able to find an available water taxi. There are only 12 available docking spots for water taxis at the airport. This is NOT comparable to the countless street taxis you’re used to seeing at other airports.

If your flight is delayed, that’s NO problem. The taxi will wait for you, or you’ll be assigned another one. This has been working smoothly for many years! The taxi dispatch center has an office right in the middle of the airport building. Based on your flight number, they can identify a potential delay and automatically adjust their plans. You won’t even notice. If you make a reservation in advance, you’re guaranteed a free taxi waiting for you.

Departure Times

Venice Water Taxi on the Grand Canal

After landing, head to the water taxi counter inside the airport terminal. If you’ve made a reservation in advance, someone will be there to greet you, and a taxi will be waiting for you. This service is available 24 hours a day, every day. Each taxi can accommodate up to 10 passengers and 12 pieces of luggage.

The Venice guidebooks show you the official online prices.

You should NOT pay any more than that!

The price of a private water taxi depends heavily on the distance from your accommodations in Venice. For example, the standard official online price for a private water taxi is 160,000 € per trip for the entire taxi. That's all you'll have to pay. The price is valid for up to 6 people. Each additional person pays a small surcharge.

Taxi drivers charge a small surcharge for the following hotels, which are located a little further out:

  • Lido, S.M.E. (Santa Maria Elisabetta) stop: €5.00 surcharge.
  • Hilton Molino Stucky Hotel: €10.00 surcharge.
  • Hotel EXCELSIOR: €20.00 surcharge.
  • Kempinski Hotel San Clemente: €20.00 surcharge.
  • JW Marriott Venice Hotel: €20.00 surcharge.
  • Tronchetto Car Park: €10.00 surcharge.

If you book your round-trip tickets at the same time: €5.00 discount.

If there are more than 6 people in your group, taxi drivers charge a €20 surcharge per person. This amount includes one piece of luggage per person. A €20 surcharge also applies to nighttime rides between 10:00 p.m. and 6:59 a.m.

Surcharge: Right in the heart of Venice's historic center

If your hotel is located in the heart of Venice’s historic center and the taxi driver needs extra time to get there (you know the saying in business: „Time is money“), he will charge a €20.00 surcharge per ride. Think about whether you want to pay this extra charge, or get off at a convenient stop and walk the remaining few meters.

Miscellaneous

Venice Express Water Taxi

1. Each water taxi can carry a maximum of 10 passengers and 10 pieces of luggage. For groups of more than 10 people, additional water taxis must be reserved.

2. Restrictions: The private docks of the following hotels cannot be reached directly by water taxi: Duodo, Splendid, Cavalletto, Saturnia, Bonvecchiati, Bonvecchiati Palace. In such cases, the boats will generally dock at the nearest pier (no more than a 5-minute walk from the hotel).

3. Even water taxis cannot navigate the particularly narrow waterways and canals. In this case, we will always take you to the nearest dock (no more than a 5-minute walk from the hotel).

Advance reservations are strongly recommended!

Venice: Marco Polo's Empty Pier

If you want to take a taxi from the Venice airport without a reservation, there may very well be NO taxi available for you, and you’ll have to wait until one is called in from Venice (approx. 30-minute wait). We strongly recommend that you book a water taxi in advance, as it costs the same as booking one on-site and saves you unnecessary waiting time.

You did book your hotel in advance, didn't you? The photo shows an empty dock at the airport.

Fact: The vast majority of visitors to Venice now book their water taxis online, so it’s becoming less and less worthwhile for taxi drivers to wait unnecessarily at the airport.

Just a typical day at the airport in October

This sign, posted at several counters in the middle of the airport building, means that it's better to book a private water taxi online in advance rather than rely on there always being enough available taxis waiting at the airport.
