Venice - Parking - Tronchetto

The two parking garages at the Piazzale Roma They have long been unable to accommodate the large number of cars that arrive in Venice every day. An additional parking garage was therefore needed to handle the growing number of tourists. Consequently, a large, modern, multi-story parking garage was built on the site of the original ground-level parking lot on the island of Tronchetto.

Pronunciation
The two letters ch are always pronounced as „K“ (K as in Cologne) in Italian. So the Venetians pronounce the name "Tronchetto" as "Tronketto." The stop for the Vaporetto Line 2, which stops here, is announced on the boat as „Tronketto.“.

You can reach the island directly at the end of the approximately 4-kilometer-long, 1-meter-high bridge from the mainland. Even from a distance, you can see the circular access ramp at the end of the tall parking garage. The bridge from the mainland is called the Bridge of Freedom: „Ponte della Libertà.“ It is the only road connection to Venice. It was named after World War II to commemorate the liberation from fascism.

Trochetto – Site Plan

The plan is from https://www.OpenStreetMap.org © OpenStreetMap contributors.

Although the island of Tronchetto isn't particularly large, it is nonetheless very important to many tourists upon arrival and departure. Only tourists who land by plane at Marco Polo Airport and day-trippers who arrive by boat from Punta Sabbioni do NOT pass through here.

Parking at Tronchetto

As you can see, the parking garage has multiple floors. It has such a large capacity that we’ve never seen it completely full. Even during the absolute peak of Carnival season, there was still plenty of space available. Right at the exit, cross the crosswalk and you’ll find yourself at the pier for the Vaporetto Line 2, which takes you to Venice. On the left side of the picture, you can see the escalator that will take you back to the street on the ground floor when you leave.

Tronchetto Parking: Current Rates

Venice isn’t exactly one of the most affordable cities for tourists. You’ll notice this right away when you arrive at the Tronchetto parking garage. You can see the current prices (February 2026) in the image here. Paying cars drive up to the entry barrier and take a ticket there, which shows the arrival time. When leaving, you first pay the parking fee at one of the counters or at a pay station, and only then drive through the exit barrier to leave the parking garage.

Our Tip

As you can see, every hour or part thereof counts. Therefore, plan your arrival and departure times in advance so that your parking time stays under 24 hours, 48 hours, etc., if possible. You must pay the full rate for every day or part thereof.

This way, you'll avoid unnecessary parking fees. Ask at your hotel what time you need to check out on the day of your departure. Add an hour for the trip from your hotel to the parking garage.

Tronchetto – Safety

In the parking garage, make a note of the parking zone—for example, „Kleeblatt B2“—and you’ll have no trouble finding your car again when you leave. Note: Venice thrives on tourism. The city CANNOT afford a bad reputation. Over the past 25 years (that’s how long Venice.com (already online) I've never heard that anything happened here!

This parking garage has 3,957 parking spaces, and we've never had a situation where there were no more available spots here.

Tronchetto – Access for Tour Buses and RVs

Cars enter the driveway on the right side of the picture. The maximum height of the driveway is 2.10 meters. This also applies to the two parking garages at the Piazzale Roma. This means that none of the three parking garages in Venice are suitable for tour buses and RVs. However, passenger vans—such as the standard VW Bus—can fit inside the parking garages. All tour buses and RVs drive through the parking garage’s archway and will find plenty of space to park behind the garage.

As explained above, RVs and tour buses must drive through the parking garage and will find paid parking spaces behind it.

Vacationers and tourists looking for a hotel on the Lido If you've booked from Venice, you can take your car on the car ferry from Tronchetto Island directly to the Lido have it translated and then park either in the hotel's own parking lot or on the street in front of the hotel.

Public transportation in Venice is abbreviated as ACTV. At the Tronchetto parking garage, there is a staffed ticket booth where you can purchase your ticket. Our tip: Decide in advance whether you want to buy a multi-day ticket; if you do, the ride from the parking garage to your hotel is already included in the multi-day ticket. A standard trip costs €9.50 per person per trip (April 2026) and may last a maximum of 75 minutes.

Tronchetto – The Vaporetto stop for Line 2

Right at the exit of the parking garage, cross the street and you'll be at the bus stop for the Vaporetto Line 2, which takes you to Venice. The boats on Line 2 travel either through the Grand Canal (with stops at Piazzale Roma, Ferrovia, Rialto, San Marco) or via the large, wide Giudecca Canal (with the Zattere stop) also to St. Mark's Square.

The ACTV ticket office at Tronchetto

The photo shows the vaporetto stop at the Tronchetto parking garage. Line 2 stops here.

Our tip: It would be very frustrating for you if the vaporetto left right in front of you when you arrived. With a ticket you've purchased online, you'll get to the vaporetto faster. That way, you won't have to wait in line at the ticket window.
