Venice: From Tronchetto Park to the hotel or the historic center

There are four ways to get to your accommodations or any other destination in Venice after arriving at the Ronchetto parking garage.

  1. They continue on foot.
  2. They take a water taxi.
  3. Take the People Mover to Piazzale Roma.
  4. They take public transportation (vaporetti).

1. They walk

If your destination is near the Tronchetto parking garage, Or, if you want to save money (on the cost of a ticket), just keep walking. Enter your destination in Google Maps, and it will guide you safely along the best and fastest route to your destination.

2. You take a water taxi

There is a water taxi stop right next to the Tronchetto parking garage. Head over to the water taxis, hop on, and off you go.

Venice Water Taxi

And now you might have a problem.

Either: If you've booked a water taxi online, the taxi will, of course, be waiting for you. You get in, and it will take you to any destination in Venice or throughout the lagoon.

Or: As soon as you arrive, you head straight to the taxi stand and hope that a vacant taxi is waiting there to take you to your destination.

Of course, both options are possible. And both may carry a risk:

If you’ve booked a taxi online and arrive at the Tronchetto on time, you can just get in and go—everything will be perfect. However, if your trip is delayed (due to traffic on the highway), the taxi driver will, of course, wait for you, and you’ll be charged for the driver’s waiting time.

The Best Solution: You’ll know well in advance whether or not you’ll arrive at the Tronchetto on time. If you get stuck in traffic or think you might, please call the taxi dispatch center here in Venice (in English) and let them know you’ll be late. The taxi dispatch center will then decide whether the taxi driver will wait for you free of charge if the delay is minor, or whether another taxi will be assigned to you.

3. Take the People Mover to the harbor

The People Mover is located right next to the Tronchetto parking garage. The photo shows the Tronchetto stop. It takes you just one stop to the heart of the harbor. Click here: The People Mover in Venice

4. You take public transportation (vaporetti).

Piazzale Roma

The bus routes at Piazzale Roma

Piazzale Roma is the central transportation hub on the northern outskirts of Venice. That’s why many more vaporetto lines stop there than at the Tronchetto parking garage. If you want to use these additional lines, first take the Line 2 vaporetto, ride one stop to Piazzale Roma, and transfer there.

Your Vaporetto online ticket.

If you don't want a vaporetto to leave right in front of you while you're waiting in line at the ticket booth at Tronchetto, book a ticket online. The price is the same as it is in person.
