Venice ACTV – From Punta Sabbioni to Venice

Most day-trippers from the Adriatic coast (Jesolo, Caorle, Bibione, Lignano, etc.) likely pass through the small town of Punta Sabbioni on their way to Venice. „Punta“ is the Italian word for “point,” and “sabbia” means “sand.” Punta Sabbioni is therefore the “sandy tip,” as this small town is located at the tip of the Cavallino Peninsula. This is where Venice’s public transit system (ACTV) has its stop for lines 14 and 15.

Parking in Punta Sabbioni

A parking spot costs exactly €8.00 for 24 hours in the summer. In the winter, it’s only €6.00, making it significantly cheaper than the parking garages in Venice. There are several secure parking lots. They’re all equally good, equally safe, and equally affordable.

Free Parking in Punta Sabbioni

There are plenty of parking spaces in Punta Sabbioni. Tens of thousands of Adriatic vacationers find a spot for their car here every day. If you’re lucky, you might even find a free parking spot on the side of the road. But that’s rarely the case. The locals who commute to Venice from here for work, of course, also know about these free parking spots and snap them up first thing in the morning.

ACTV Routes to Venice

Venice ACTV - From Punta Sabbioni to Venice

Venice’s public transit system (ACTV) operates Lines 14 and 15 back and forth between St. Mark’s Square and Punta Sabbioni. Departures from Punta Sabbioni are always on the hour and at half past the hour. The trip takes about 35 minutes. Line 14 makes a brief stop at the Lido. Line 15 goes directly to Venice.

Long lines in Punta Sabbioni

The behavior of many vacationers on the Adriatic is similar: With the motto, „We’re on vacation, not on the run,“ you can get up at your own pace. Take your time heading to breakfast, get ready for the Venice excursion at a leisurely pace, and then almost everyone arrives in Punta Sabbioni at the same time, sometime between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. This leads to long lines at the vaporetto ticket counters. If you order your ticket online in advance, you can board the boat immediately and skip the line.

Bad Weather on the Adriatic Coast

„It's busy“ is, of course, especially true when the „weather is bad.“ Many vacationers on the Adriatic take advantage of this to take a trip to Venice. When the sky is cloudy or it's drizzling, it's „especially busy“ (and, of course, later on in Venice as well).

Ticket Vending Machine in Punta Sabbioni

For visitors to Venice who don't want to wait in line, there's a ticket machine specifically for advance reservations. This way, you can avoid any potential lines at the ticket counter. At the ticket machine, you can exchange your online ticket for a regular ticket. It takes 15 seconds. And the best part is: the ticket machine is always available.

Arriving in Venice „Right in the Heart of the City“

You'll arrive right in the heart of Venice: right in the center, at St. Mark's Square. This is the most beautiful way to arrive in Venice. You'll be thrilled.

From Punta Sabbioni to Burano

Line 14 also runs from Punta Sabbioni to Burano. Thanks to its covered sun deck and excellent views, this is the most beautiful way to travel to Burano.

The Scarpa Bar in Punta Sabbioni

If you happen to arrive a little early, I recommend having an espresso or an Aperol at Bar Scarpa. It's right across the street from the ACTV ticket office. Maybe we'll run into each other there.

Affordable Transfer Service Providers

Many groups also take the ferry to Venice from Punta Sabbioni. Affordable private operators currently charge only €7.50 per person per trip. ACTV charges €9.50 per person per trip.

Bus Parking Lot in Punta Sabbioni

As you can see, there is also a large bus parking lot. It belongs to the ACI (Automobile Club of Italy). It is well known among bus tour operators throughout Europe and is also heavily used.

Bus Passengers

Every time a bus arrives, all the passengers rush to the boat dock to take the ferry to Venice. But don’t worry. Buses often use all the private and more affordable operators. Still, it would be frustrating to be waiting in line at the ticket counter and have a boat leave right under your nose. You can easily avoid this by buying a ticket online:

Adriatic vacationers from Jesolo, Caorle, Bibione, or Lignano

Vacationers on the Adriatic coast—whether from Jesolo, Caorle, Bibione, or Lignano—drive to Jesolo through Cavallino and then take the 10-kilometer-long, dead-straight road right through the middle of the peninsula to Punta Sabbioni.

M.O.S.E.

The vaporetti that take you to Venice also pass very close to the M.O.S.E. project.

The most important gateway for all vacationers heading to the Adriatic:
